Step 1: Increase your right to rule

Right to rule is a measure of how legitimate your claim to be a king or queen is. It affects how other factions view you and whether they will recognize you as an independent kingdom or not. You can increase your right to rule by doing the following:

Getting married

Sending companions on missions to spread your fame

Helping a claimant to overthrow a king

Defeating another king in battle

Making peace with another faction

You can check your right to rule by opening the reports menu and selecting view your character report. You need at least 30 right to rule to be recognized as a king or queen by other factions.

Step 2: Improve your relations with the king and lords of the other faction

To form an alliance with another kingdom, you need to have a good relationship with the king and his vassals. You can improve your relations by doing the following:

Completing quests for them

Releasing them after capturing them in battle

Giving them gifts or fiefs

Fighting alongside them in battles

Supporting their interests in the kingdom management menu

You can check your relations with other characters by opening the reports menu and selecting view relations report. You need at least 50 relations with the king and 20 relations with most of his lords to have a chance of forming an alliance.

Once you have met all the requirements, you can send an emissary to propose an alliance with another kingdom. You can do that by doing the following:

Talking to your minister and selecting dispatch an emissary option

Choosing a companion or your spouse as your emissary (they should have high persuasion skill)

Selecting which faction you want to ally with

Selecting which type of alliance you want (defensive pact, trade agreement, or non-aggression pact)

Waiting for a response from the other king (it may take some time)

If the other king accepts your proposal, you will form an alliance with them. You can check your current alliances by opening the reports menu and selecting view factions report.
